Kernel panic puts me in a panic

I have been using dvdbackup for over 10 different DVDs and now it is throwing a kernel panic. The problem is that I don't even know where to start. Where do I look at the message that gets written to the screen after I boot up the next time? What could possibly be causing this?

The message says something about an IRQ sync problem. Why would this start happening now, appearently out of the blue?

I don't know whats causing this but I'd start by looking at the output of dmesg:

dmesg | more

see if anything jumps out at you. Also check /var/log/messages just in case some errors got thrown in there as well. My guess would be that this is a hardware issue if it just came out of the blue. Of course, I could be wrong.

Thanks for the help directing me to the logs. I checked right after the panic, but I couldn't find anything. I'll go through it more thoroughly today.
