How to setup a remote desktop

I would like to access a remote computer. Can anyone take me through this process? I am a SuSE 9.0 user.

Also, I know that I need the IP address of the remote computer, but I am not sure how to find it. How do you determine a computer's IP address.

Thanks in advance
