How do I turn off the process that prevents
yast from accessing the package database? I get the error message:
ERROR another process is accessing the package database. package
management can not be used.
Do a ps aux, find out the process that's accessing it then stop (kill) it. Chances are it's from an unclean disconnect from YaST and the connection remained in memory.
Ok, I will try it and post back. I have other major problems related to yast because I was doing a patch and kernel update and it quite at 50%. I now have two kernels in the grub menu so I am not sure if I should cut my loses and reinstall suse. When I installed suse, I forgot to not let it install zen. I tried to disable it and delete zen, but it causes the yast modules to be hard to start (example, if I pick online update, it will start, parse files and then disappear. It may take a dozen times until it parses files ok and continues.) From the above description of my problem, can I make yast pick up where it left off?
I am having the same problem as Sirius57.
I am new to excel and am still barely understanding the concepts of rpm's and YAST etc.
When I click the rpm file and the click on the "Install using YAST" button...I get prompted to enter my root user password. I do that and then nothing happens. The Software Manager does not open up...just blank..like nothing ever happend.
So I go back and click on "Install using YAST" again.
Again I am prompted with the password box...I enter the password and this time...the software manager is attempting to load..but then I get the
ERROR: Another process is accessing the package database. package
management can not be used.
I understand the this might be because the first time I clicked it might be accessing the resources hence gave me the error the second time.
So I restarted the server, tried again and the same sequence of events happen again. I have already tried this 3 times. Each time the first attempt to install produces nothing..and the second attempt produces the error. I have also waited 30 minutes between each attempt to make sure I give it enough time.
Check whether opensuseupdater (the blue circle with a green arrow icon at the bottom right corner of the desktop) or zen updater is checking for updates. Once they have stopped, you can use yast.
