how do you use the network download

I have tried often the suse network download disk but can never get it to work.

On boot it says can't find local system without any explanation.

The when you go to manual there is no explanation of how to load and using all the defaults finds router gateway and local ip address.

Surely it should be simpler than this?

Can some one tell me how you use this disc, as I thought with the reputation of Suse they should have at least made a disc for the beginners to load simply.

By the way it is the x86_64 operating system I use so, not that it should matter as I have downloaded the 9.3 iso of this network disc.

First of all, read this:
http://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/current/README.FTP

This method will only work if your network card is properly recognized and receives its IP via DHCP. If you are using a static IP, you need to go into manual installation. Here you need to load the driver for your network card and maybe the HDD controller (e.g. for S-ATA/SCSI drives). Also, you need to load the filesystem driver (default: reiserfs). Then you start the installation from a network source (mostly FTP or HTTP). Unfortunately, you'll need to provide the IP number, not the DNS resolved name of your mirror. Have a look here for mirrors:
http://www.novell.com/products/linux...t_mirrors.html
To find out the IP number, type 'ping <server>' or 'nslookup <server> on a system with internet connection (may also be Windows).
When you specify the path to the installation source, make sure you don't start with a slash '/' and end up in the directory with the version number (e.g. /9.3). Now, the installation should run as usual.

Thanks,

I have downloaded 9.3 x86_64 now and it appears to work.

The readme on the suse site needs updating.

I would have thought the network disc should have the aps to do it all without all the need of finding a mirror etc etc. Not a beginners disc.
