how do i get xine (kaffeine) to play dvds?

i understand that xine does not come with the necessary tools to play dvds on suse. i've heard that i need to install lib.dvd.css, but i'm not sure that that is all. i tried that earlier and it didn't work. anyone else had to fix this problem?

I think you need libdvdcss and libdvdread.

See below for repaired xine binaries for SuSE. They work, unlike the ones that SuSE puts out.

You have to uninstall the xine that came from the CD or SuSE, then reinstall the new one from the link in the above post.

All the instructions are given in that link. Thats the one i followed.

So, is that leagal in the USA? If it isn't, why not? that's so stupid. I can't see the reasoning behind any of this legality crap.

Packman!

I elected to run with MPlayer. Plays .mpegs, .asf, .wmv files, plus my DVDs. Whatever you decide on make sure you get the W32 codecs. Somewhere on this forum you can find the details.

Media wasn't the reason that I switched to Linux, but it does make an interesting diversion from my normal, mundane life!
