The reason I ask is because I ordered SUSE10 on Friday - 30 Sep and my order status now shows 'back ordered' with a 'pending shipment' state. Has anyone who ordered the box/retail version actually received it yet?
Thanks.
My order is showing the same status - am a bit pi##ed off really with it. Especially since I orderd it directly from the Novell website. How can they be waiting for copies from the manuafacturer - when that is them!

I was also going to order it, but glad I didn't since you guys mentioned shipping delays. I wanted to get SUSE 10 BEFORE the Oct. 6 OpenSUSE 10.0 release, but it looks like we'll all get it the same time.
As always, a pre-order gets you the earliest shipment after the release date which I believe is Oct 6. Works for me -- my order has been in since the first day Novell would accept orders. Early order rewarded me with free shipping.
Fragos: Your assumption that the release date is 6 October may be correct. However, for both Digital River and Novell to advertise a shipment date of 30 September, when this is really not the case, is in my mind misleading. Therefore, to show my disgust at this false information propagated by both parties, I have canceled my order. I'll just wait for opensuse.org to release their version and download it for free.
In essence: if you advertise a specific shipping date then you should make every attempt to do so. Anything short of that constitutes misleading, and false, advertising in my mind. And when you do something like that then I won't buy it. Simple.
Sometimes a manfacturer can have an intended Ship Date, but for unforeseen reasons are unable to make THAT Ship Date and the release gets pushed back. Changing the information on websites to the NEW Ship Date is another matter and SHOULD be something that they should take care of but are not always able to (case in point: Longhorn). The download version, either by FTP or ISO download is ALL open-source software (no proprietary software: i.e., Adobe, Java, etc.) though these can be downloaded from the mirrors after the install, the boxed version will be complete. IMHO: A true SUSE user should not cancel an order to protest a missed Ship Date.

Metamorphousthe, I understand what you wrote and agree. I'm fully aware of missing release/ship dates. However, since both Digital River and Novell continue to list 30 Sep as the ship date on their web sites, knowing fully well that this is not the case, then I must ask what their motives are. I'm sure it wouldn't take too much time on their part to make the correction or, at least, some sort of announcement about the slipped ship date.
THAT, and only that, is what I'm angry about. Sure, I can certainly wait as that is not a problem. It's all of the above which makes me think about canceling the order.
rgbrock1 - Must say that you are bang on with your comments.
What Metamorphousthe says makes sense too and I appreciate that sometimes there are last minute problems that can't be helped - if Novell had sent an email to those who had ordered the retail box with a genunine apology and explanation and secoundly changed the details on their website that would have been fair enough.
i am not trying to make anyone angry, but why does the suse dist. have this system in which you 'order' new releases and wait. do they not make the new realease available for download as well? I grew up with RedHat (6.0 was my 'first', then 7.0, 7.1, 7.3, 9.0) and now I do Fedora Core (i went to FC 4 from RH9). Is Suse semi-open in the sense that they make you pay for the packed distribution?
evans0409: you don't think Novell is going to package SUSE, in a retail package that is,
with a user manual, CDs etc. for free, do you?
You can still, however, download SUSE for free from http://www.opensuse.org

Ah, this answers my question! Thanks! I also read the previous post(s) more carefully, and I see that the 'paid for' version will include sme non open source packages like Adobe etc... Interesting. Thanks again.
I've got mine on pre-order from Amazon (UK). I've just checked my account details on their site and their estimated delivery date is stated to be between 1st and 3rd November !!!

LOL! Now I'm REALLY glad I didn't pre-order.
I think Novell should do what Mandriva does. basically, paying customers get theirs first. Then, the public will get theirs in about 2-3 weeks later. If Novell did this, then I would gladly pay to get my hands on it first!
I got an email from Novell at 1:07 am today stating that:

Your order from shopNovell has been shipped and your credit card has been charged.
I guess that that'd mean SuSE 10.0 is finalized and theoretically released. I've been poking around on various FTP mirrors, though I haven't been able to find one with the final release ISOs so it looks like they haven't released the images to the public as of yet Keep your fingers crossed though!
