Yes. I am stuck on the idea that I spend $170 Cdn on SuSE 8.1 Pro. Besides it seems to run fairly good.
So far the option of using apt to upgrade my distro is not overwhelming me, becuase the last time this was attempted, a couple of years ago, my system became inoperative. At that point my system, regrettabaly, was reloaded with Windows XP Home.

Wow, someone has made a really good deal with you I think when 8.1 came out I have paid something like 25 Euro (OK, it was an update, but even 50 Euro sounds cheap compared to this). Unfortunately it never ran properly on my notebook, so I updated online to 8.2, which was the most stable SUSE I ever handled.
I was also curious and looked for downloads of 8.1 updates. The whole tree has been moved to 'discontinued', but the last updates were released on 24. February 2005.
I guess you all can see why I am stuck on using it, but upgrading is probably more reasonable.
When I purchased my SuSE package, two years ago, it was the best idea at the time, but it did not take long for them to upgrdae to 8.2. I have to admitt, that kind of irritated me a bit. It is nice to see improvements, but a few months after my purchase? However, this is the story of my life. I am starting to believe that the merchants are watching what I buy and then they mark it down and either reduce the price in a couple of weeks, or contact the manufacuters to make major changes in the next couple of months. Basically, they can see me coming.
Just in case anyone is wondering, I purchased my distro at Future Shop.
Also, does anyone have and good pointer on how to upgrade my distro without error, and without cost. I know this is asking a lot, but it would be a great help.
Regardless of my ups and downs with software, I believe that SuSE is a wonderful piece of work. It sure makes linux a friendly environment.
