Question can't access files from browser in SuSE 10.0

Don't know where to begin.....have been find a slow progression of "denial of access" errors.I noticed it first when using downthemall plugin,I tried to select a file path to save it to but i was denied (I was logged in as root).Couldn't use dTa as a user at all. Then found that it was a bug fixed it by relnstalling, but then was denied access to my user file (as user and root). Then i tried to save a document from a web page, using the "save as" in the popup window "access denied"!in fact as root and user the only thing i can do is save to desktop then move the file to the appropiate folder.I have access to everything form the desktop(KDE 3.5.6 release 41.5).
I've checked all the ownerships and permissions on all home directories and i have permissions to do EVERYTHING....but still no luck....still get denial of access or permission denied,I've check uses and groups and that is ok.If this was windows I would say I had a virus, and to that length I have AVG for linux installed ...clean!
Any suggestions
I am running SuSE 10.0(kernel 2.6.13-15.15).

THX

Well, if you have permissions set up correctly to your home directory, and you still get denial of access/permission denied errors, the next thing to check it the website you are trying to download/save from.

Does the website require you to log in before you can download anything?

I would start at /etc/fstab file and see how hda3 (assuming thats where your user files are) is set up. Could be its read only. Then go to the desktop directory, right click and see how the permissioms are there then go to where you are trying to save into and see how the permissions are there .
They should be the same .

Further than that you need a gugu who can advise you further

Hm... strange.
Log into a terminal (as User!!) and type (line break is always a Return)

cd
echo ollcorrect > testfile
cat testfile
rm testfile

The first line puts you in you're home directory, the second one creates a textfile that contains "ollcorrect", and "cat testfile" should put out "ollcorrect". rm should remove it without any output...
Could you try that.
If for some funky reason that doesn't work, write
gedit /etc/fstab

or if you're using kde

kate /etc/fstab

and post the contents here.
Also add the contents of /etc/mtab while you're at it.

Don't play with chmod and chown quite yet. Those can actually completely lock you out of the system when done in the wrong place.
