Buzzy Sound when Playing MGEG's in MPlayer 1.0pre5 in SuSE 9.1

I just compiled and installed MPlayer 1.0pre5 on my SuSE machine. Everything is working fine except when playing MPEG videos, the sound seems kinda buzzy and a little distorted. File formats like DivX, WMA etc... don't seem to have this problem.

Any ideas why this could be?

Does anyone else have a similar prob with MPlayer?

I have the same problem, but I haven't read the manpages yet for a solution. Output of "mplayer -v" reveals that the default inbuilt codecs are utilized. Perhaps the wrong audio codec is used? Maybe need to define codecs.conf in homedir, instead of using default inbuilt codecs? Haven't really thought about it, don't use it much anyway.

I managed to fix it finally. You can use either of the following ways:

(1) In gmplayer > Preferences > Codecs and demuxes

Change Audio Codec to "FFMpeg/libavcodec"
(incidentally, the mplayer site docs list this codec as *the*
fastest codec for decoding Mpeg4/DivX etc

(2) In ~/.mplayer/config, add the following line:

afm = ffmpeg

(3) If you're are the command-line types, you can run mplayer as follows:

mplayer -afm ffmpeg

It was just a problem of selecting another codec
