Unhappy 9.3 install - impatient!

Hi All,
I'm quite new to Suse, I've used Ubuntu and Lindows...showing my age...Linspire, I mean...in the past but last year I got Suse 9.1

I've had a few problems with sound etc and feel it's time to upgrade to 9.3

I work at a University so I can download from the academic mirrors very fast and got 9.3 from:
ftp.mirror.ac.uk/mirror/ftp.suse.com/i386/9.3/

I have no idea now how to install it though since there is no ISO yet. I used the 9.2 boot loader and got the manual install to work, but can't get past the first stage; it reports that it can't find the disc image. I burned the i586 folder, the media.1 folder and all the other stuff in that directory to DVD but I must be missing something, as it can't install.
I also tried an FTP install ... and pointed to this 9.3 directory, but it can't find whatever it needs to complete the installation.

I really like Suse and am going to stick with it. I just wanted to update to the latest version since I believe it's more stable (my version is a bit slow and Konqueror (sp?) has just disappeared on me a couple of times). Also don't want to fork out the update fee since it's not that long ago since I got 9.1, but I will soon when maybe v10 comes out!!

Anyone got any ideas?

This isn't a major problem, I'm just suffering from update-itis...and want something a little more stable.
Thanks for any help.
Glo

My suggestion is how i installed Suse before. Have 3 partitions. 1 for XP, 1 for transfering (Fat32), and 1 for linux. Copy all your folders to your Fat32 partition. Then when you boot up w/ the boot.iso image point the install directory to your hda2 (3,4,5...) which should be your fat32 partition.

Should work fine.

thanks for the replies guys

I can't believe that if I had waited 24 hours or less I would have found the ISO on the mirror I was using!
It's now there on ftp.mirror.ac.uk/mirror and I've downloaded it no problem

I'll try the update this evening

Hi guys
I downloaded the Boot ISO ...it's a mini-installation ISO, but it is just a different look and feel to the 9.2 mini boot ISO I was using to try to FTP install

However, I get the same problem, when I point the FTP install to the 9.3 folder on the suse mirror, I get an error "cannot find the image"
I've tried a few things now but none seem to work...all fail at the same stage...specifying where the proper installation should take place from.
Is there a specific folder that I should point to? Or, is this just very complicated, and should I just wait for the official ISO to be released like 9.2?

FYI, I have typed in ftp.mirror.ac.uk as the ftp server and the folder location as mirror/ftp.suse.com/i386/9.3 but get an error stating that the necessary file cannot be found.

I'll keep trying tho!

Thanks

SUSE 9.3 has not been released on FTP yet. What you see on that server is the FTP add-on for people who have bought 9.3 but do not have a DVD drive. A good indicator is the file 'content' and that fact that you won't find a kernel-rpm

Be patient or buy it !

Yes, this is what I found out on another thread. I thought I was downloading the FTP installer of the full version, but as you mentioned it is actually only supplementary to the CD version.
You're right, I need to be patient or buy the upgrade and since I'm in no rush, I'll just wait until the proper 9.3 FTP version is available.
Thanks to everyone for their help.

In the thread about 9.3 ISO download, someone claims that there is no legal problem with those files. You might want to try these (if you believe this information).
