In a simple answer, you boot off the Solaris 10 installer disc and use it. It will search for previous versions and allow an easy upgrade if possible.

Upgrade Planning

x86: To Install or Upgrade With the Solaris Installation Program With GRUB
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817...gbagb1e?a=view

Step 11 of instructions:

11. Accept the license agreement to continue the installation. Click Next.

The Solaris installation program then determines if the system can be upgraded. To upgrade, the system must have an existing Solaris root (/) file system. The Solaris installation program detects the necessary conditions and then upgrades the system.

The Select Upgrade or Initial Install screen appears.

And don't overlook this advice from the Upgrade Planning guide:

Backing up your existing file systems before you upgrade to the Solaris OS is highly recommended. If you copy file systems to removable media, such as tape, you can safeguard against data loss, damage, or corruption.
