I have a Sun Ultra 2 on which I plan to install Sol 9.
I have 2 9.1 gig SCSI drives (an original Hitachi and a new HP)
At the boot prom (ok prompt) only the Hitachi drive shows up and I get a message "unexpected message at 2" when I try to probe the HP.
I have used 'format' to do a low level format and have given the HP a Solaris label.
In the actual OS install process when the system is running off the install CD both drives are visible and can be installed on -- in a terminal I can see both devices and in format it shows the HP as c0t1d0 --and everything installs. However upon reboot after installation the HP is still invisible to the boot prom and I get a boot error.
Thoughts?
It all installs correctly and all drives are visible in the install program and I can run format and see it in prtvtoc etc, but it will not boot with the HP drive.
After letting it sit for a weekend, I got it to work.
I booted the install CD (ok prompt didn't show drive) and installed the root and swap and everything the system needed to boot onto the hitachi sun drive. I put home on the HP.
After installation the boot prom could still not see the HP, but after spitting a couple of SCSI error messages at me, it boots from the hitachi and I have a perfectly working system, home mounts on the HP drive and all works well.
It failed before I guess because the swap was on the HP... since everything needed at boot time was on the hitachi it all works.
the jumpers were set correctly already, thanks though.
