Remote connection from windows to solaris

Hi admins,
I am trying to get access to solaris server (which is at my workplace) from my laptop having vista on it from home. (different internet connection)
I used putty, but it says "server unexpectedly closed network connection" I did the settings on putty i.e. ip forwarding ..etc,
but it didn't work.

What setting should I have to do on solaris server.

Please help me out.

Thanks

Your post doesn't make really clear what you did.

Is this solaris machine behind a firewall? Then you need to allow port 22(dependent on what you configured) and probably need an internet IP on your solaris machine(through natting or through port mapping).

I am talking about your router. The way you do it on your router is dependent from what brand and model.
Principle is: port 22: foward <internal IP>:<internal port>
So if your internet IP is 182.34.23.83, and your internal server 192.168.0.22 then this would forward all connections to 182.34.23.83 on port 22 to 192.168.0.22 port 22.

Is your solaris server and your other servers in the same network behind one internet IP?
Then you will need portmapping or only one machine can be accessible through ssh.

I would strongly recommend not doing this if you are not aware of these concepts and don't know what actually your setup is.

ok.
Here is the setup.
The Solaris server is in a university IT dept.
I can access it within university using secureCRT / putty.

But I want to access it using my laptop from my home. Using different internet connection/different router. It has vista on it.

Let me know if you need anything.

thnx

You are a student or a network admin?

If you are a student, you should ask your university admins to enable port forwarding.
If you are an admin there, you should know how to do this yourself.
