Ya... ???
Explain me this:
When both machines (same subnet) were set to auto neg. then during data transfer netstat showed this:
Code:
[root@sunbox# netstat -I ce0 -i 2
input ce0 output input (Total) output
packets errs packets errs colls packets errs packets errs colls

4510 0 6995 14 70 4512 0 6995 14 70
4708 0 7193 19 85 4709 0 7193 19 85
3362 0 5449 11 49 3384 0 5469 11 49
3547 0 5541 6 56 3609 0 5598 6 56

When I set both sites: FULL DUPLEX; no auto neg; 100 Mbit; then no errors occure.

Code:
[root@sunbox# netstat -I ce0 -i 2
input ce0 output input (Total) output

When I posted last time I sent questions to Network Department for port switch configuration - still have no answer (and as I said probably never will get it). The only way is to experiment.
As you see: forceing NIC's to work with other mode that auto neg. can get works better.

I would say your switch is seriously buggy ...

Googling shows reports of Cisco 29xx and 6509 models with such duplex mismatch issues.

Of course, according to the statistics returned, your workaround is the way to go.
