DVD Solaris doesnt boot

Hi, i've got issue with booting solaris 10 06/06 x64 dvd or cd. Media start booting, but only to grub command line not to installer. I did cat file1 - file5 > file.iso according instuctions on sun.com, tried on few different computers as well as burning more times(cd or dvd rw media i used) but still not booting. Before burning my md5 sum check is ok(k3b) so iso images seems to be ok. I dont know where problem is. Anybody can help with this problem please? Thanks in advance. (my computer is running on amd64 turion)

Check the md5 of your DVD, if still correct, try booting in verbose mode (-v option) or under mdb control.

And how can i boot in verbose mode? I inserted cd or dvd into drive, reboot , wait, cd or dvd will start booting and i see only "Loading stage 2" or something like this(grub loader) and after that i'm in grub command line. I expected installer but what can i do now. I downloaded cd 1 twice and got same result, there is no problem with md5 sum. My Q: how can i switch -v verbose mode? And what's that mdb control? I can use only grub loader commands nothing else. Help me please, i'm sick from this problem.

By adding the -v option to the boot command.

Mdb is the Solaris modular debugger, which allows to debug kernel hangs, beyond other things.

Precisely, one of the grub great features is that it allows editing the commands used to boot the O/S.
When the boot menu appears, press the 'e' key to enter edit mode and add the -kdv options to the following line:
Code:

kernel /boot/multiboot kernel/unix -kdv -B install_media=cdrom
then press 'b' to boot.

At the kmdb prompt, enter the following commands and see how far it goes:
Code:
[0]> moddebug/W 80000000
[0]>:c

My computer wouldnt correctly boot from the DVD. Then I tried the CD version instead, and it worked. In fact, several people reported that the DVD didnt work and they had to use the CDs instead.

Thank you guys that you are trying to help me but I need to apologize that i was not clear. I know that "e" is used for editing boot parameters in grub. But grub command line that what i will get immidiately after booting cd or dvd is not grub(0.97 fedora core 6 grub) from my hdd(so i have no options to edit), but it is from my dvd or cd1(grub version 0.95 solaris), i havent got chance to edit anything, see output:

Loading stage 2 ....

>>>>>>>>>and after while it puts me into

GNU GRUB version 0.95 (640K lower / 1024K upper memory)

[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB
lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible
completions of a device/filename.]
grub>
========================================================

I already tried to boot :
kernel /boot/multiboot or kernel /boot/x86xxx
but all the time i will get Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format.

In past i was able to install succesfully solaris 9, Free BSD and lots of linux distros as well... there seems to be some kind of another problem. Still got issue with that. I downloaded iso's(not those for windows) again and no luck, Any ideas?

You should have seen a grub boot menu instead of falling back to the command line.
Looks to me grub doesn't know how to access your cd-drive.

Maybe, but i tried this cd and dvd on tree different computers, all the time same issue, drive start spinning without some kind of bad voices or problems with reading of media. On my acer ferrari laptop, on toshiba laptop and on desktop computer amd64X2 is not booting as well, same symptomps. With dvd drives brands from LIteOn to Matshushita. Still i dont know, i will try download parts once more time(without using Sun Download Manager). and i will send some more info. Thanks for now for your help but still not solved. I looks very very strange to me.

I never heard of such issues with Toshiba laptops (I've installed Solaris 10 multiple times on Tecra 9100 and M3).
You may also want to try OpenSolaris based distributions instead of Solaris 10, like Solaris Express, and frkit on top of that to get better support for laptops (eg. wifi), or OpenSolaris live distros like Belenix.

Many of Solaris kernel developers use Ferrari laptops, so it is wierd you got issue with one.

Yes, you right - after re-downloading part A (cd1) of solaris, i tried it to boot but again same issue, so now I will try OpenSolaris, and hope i will have luck this time. That issue is little mystery for me , i am unable to find any good reason why is that cd not booting into installer, i can understand that on my laptop could be some problem but on 2 another different computers? Simply it looks weird, before i was able to install solaris 9 successfully. I am sure that i did not any mistake in down/burn process. But still dont understand ... i will keep seeking for that issue. And thank you, in case that i will find something interesting or solve issue i will send post here.

Thanx and linux is best...
