Download 8 or 9

Hello,

About to start learning Solaris and need to download 8 or 9. Both cost money and I can't afford to get both at this time.

If I download 8 can I get free upgrade download or should I just get 9?

Thanks

John

Solaris 9 is much better than 8, in my opinion. I wouldn't bother getting Solaris 8 if you want to upgrade, the difference among Solaris's isn't like the difference among Windows versions.

Is 9 changing?

9 sounds good.

Do you know if they are changing the binaries every so often. If i download today, in a month there be a new 9 that I would have to purchase?

Most likely not, from what I've seen their major releases are more like a yearly or longer type thing. Though 9 came out this past summer, you'll probably see the next major release by end of year or who knows, haven't heard of any plans from Sun to roll out Solaris 10 yet.
