Hi Friends
I have to create home work areas for users in solaris. Please let me know how i can create them and how to allocate free space for that user.

Can I rename the existing user home area in solaris?

please do the needful as it is urgent for me.

Thanks and Regards

First thing, home area (or home directory) is created when you create a new user. In case if you have not created a home directory, then simply create it manually under /export/home and update the same in /etc/passwd file.

Code:
~$ cd /export/home
~$ mkdir username
~$ chown -R username:group username
username:......:/export/home/newname:/bin/bash
User username will then be able to use whole space allocated to /export/home mount point.

Second, in order to rename an existing home directory, simply rename the directory and update the same in /etc/passwd file.
Code:
~$ cd /export/home
~$ mv oldname newname
~$ vi /etc/passwd
username:......:/export/home/newname:/bin/bash

Are you on Solaris or Linux?

In Solaris 10 you will find /export/home mount point and in older versions of Solaris and in Linux you can find /home mount point.

However, if /export/home isn't available, then just create the directory in /home mount point.

For user or file system quota check manual of quota command here and edquota command here.

Also refer this tutorial here.
