A doubt installing Sun Java Communications Suite 5

Hi guys.

I wanted to install Sun Java Communications Suite 5 (because it's shipped along with Sun Java Enterprise System 5). This product has got Sun Directory Server as a dependency and I obviously installed from JES 5u1, the latest version. This JES version installs Directory Server 6.2 while the Communications Suite installer requires 6.0 and seems not to recognize Directory Server 6.2, so it suggests the user to install Directory Server 6.0 locally or to use a(nother) remote Directory Server 6.0 instance. This is funny, because these bundles can be downloaded together. The problem is that the installer does not continue... and the documentation also states that the native package installation that JES installer performs doesn't allow multiple installation of the product.

Do you know this problem and any workaround? Should I uninstall JES Directory Server and install Directory Server 6.0 from a zip distribution? It seems pretty odd to me to distribute this Suite if the installer cannot cope recognizing dependencies...

Thanks,
Enrico

P.S. Just for your information, another odd things that happens while installing is an error detecting cacao version resulting in a SUNWcacaort break, which must be reinstalled from Solaris distribution. This was pretty hard to track down...

I don't think that the DS version matters. When prompted to select DS, choose other and then point to ldap://localhost:389 or better yet use the fqdn. Just make sure to run the Directory Preparation tool after installation and prior configuring the other components.

Thanks Bathory, I thought about doing that but didn't know if there was any issue to take into account configuring as "remote" a DS which is local. I'll try that and let you know.

Bye,
Enrico
