I managed to get Slackware 11 running on my Lifebook 765Tx, however I have a couple of issues and being a complete Linux newbie not entirely sure where to start.

Ok, firstly, my wireless pcmcia card is a Asus WL-107g. I have no idea how to install it or configure it, does anyone know step by step how to install drivers for this card if their are any and how to configure it to use WPA?

Secondly the sound is non existent, I get an error stating that the application Soundserver(artsd) crashed and caused the signal 11. Anyone know where to start with that particular problem?

Other than that things seem to be ok, running pretty smoothly even with KDE running. However, because I currently dont have a net connection(until I get the wireless card working) how can I retrive the packages left on the install disc? I only did a minimal install to get the system running.

I'm not sure about the audio, but we can help you more with the wireless if you can tell us what chipset it is. You can find this out by opening up a terminal and typing
Look through that output and copy the whole entry of what looks like your wireless card. If you don't see anything that looks right, just post the whole thing and we'll sort through it.

Good news! Ralink is open-source friendly and gpl-ed their driver.

Hit a small snag, when I did a minimal install I never included the developer tools so the make command is not available, does anyone know how to extra packages from the original ISO installation discs?

Managed to get the make command installed but now it is saying thier are no rules, someone suggested installing the Linux kernal source so doing that now.

Get a ready-to-install Slackware package for the rt2500 driver: http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slac...2500/pkg/11.0/
There's one for the default 2.4.33.3 Slackware kernel, as well as for the 2.6.17.13 kernel that you'll find in the /extra directory.

Jon,

You install Slackware packages by becoming root (su) and issuing the command "installpkg packagename.tgz" (they are always .tgz).

My personal advice is that you use the 2.6 kernel rather than the 2.4. My wireless experience improved dramatically when I made this shift.

With regard to the sound, did you run "alsaconf" to set up your sound card? (This is something that also got a lot easier in later kernels.)

EDIT: I didn't install X windowing system on account of incredibly low RAM, so the guide doesn't work. And PatrickNew: this card is really cheap at newegg I think.
