triple boot Fedora exPee and slackware with grub

I have been using Fedora for some time now, redhat 9.0 Fedora 1,2,3 and 4. I have tried a few other distros but always returned to Fedora.
I would like to install Slackware 10.2 the disks have been downloaded and burnt. I would like to stay with the grub boot loader as I have no experience with lilo.
I am double booting with windows exPee and Fedora 4 using grub.
I am running two hard drives each has a "/" a "home" and a "boot" partition. When I updated to a new version of fedora I would add the operating system to the boot list. I would let the installer update the MBR and write to the unused "boot" partition then I would copy the needed lines from the old "boot" partition so I could boot into the other operating systems. When I had fully moved into the new version and no longer needed the previous one I would format the partitions for the next upgrade or operating system and remove it from the boot list "menu.lst" in /boot/grub. Does grub come as an option on the Slackware 10.2 disks? and if not what is my safest option?
Thanks in advance Terry

Slackware 10.2 does come with GRUB, you can find it in the "extras" directory on one of the CDs (not sure which), or download it from here.

No problem. I have been using GRUB and Slack for a while. I never have used LILO. One of my boxes is multi-boot too, with 20+ partitions.

The only caveat is that PV (the Slackware maintainer) does not support GRUB directly as a boot loader option. Thus, when you get to the part in Setup and are asked to install LILO, just respond appropriately to skip that section. You then have to install GRUB manually.

As already mentioned, GRUB is provided in the Extras directory. For Slackware 10.2, that directory is on CD 3! But you do not need to download and burn that entire CD. Merely find a Slackware mirror web site and drill your way down to the Extras/Grub directory and download only those files.

However, as you are already using GRUB, you do not need to download anything! All you need do is manually add the appropriate GRUB menu.lst options. From your post you seem well-versed in this practice already. Of course, you need to install Slack in its own partition.

FWIW, when you install 10.2, you can use the same swap partition you are using for your Fedora OS. Unfortunately, the Slack Setup tool will waste time reformatting the swap partition and there is no option to bypass formatting, unlike being able to do as much with other partitions. No damage, of course, just a nuisance.

I would let the installer update the MBR. . .
Unless you are updating GRUB, you should never have to monkey with the MBR once GRUB is installed there the first time. You should need only manually edit the menu.lst config file.

However, if you want to update to the latest version (0.97), then download the files as directed above. Then manually install the new GRUB package. If you decide to update, then all you need do is:

installpkg /path/to/where/you/downloaded/grub/grub-*.tgz

Then install GRUB to the MBR:

grub-install /dev/hda

or

grub-install /dev/hdb

Then edit menu.lst to boot from the Slack partition.

I hope this helps.
