Slackware 9.1 -> 10.2 Upgrade?

Hey All!

This is going to be a rather lame question but its something I've never done before:

Is there an upgrade path for Slackware? Is it reliable or not worth doing? I usually just backup my important stuff and wipe the machine clean when I want to upgrade the entire distro. But that isn't as much of an option this time so I was wondering if Slack knows how to upgrade itself?

You could try swaret or slapget. I have heard stories about bad upgrades and such. You could also just copy over the all the tgz files and run upgradepkg *.tgz. But I would backup all important data before doing it.

I just wipe the drive clean and do clean install.

I just found the Upgrade.txt file that comes with the distro. It has a path that makes sense but it says it works with 10.1 to 10.2. Will it work for 9.1 to 10.2?

I'll take a look at swaret or slapget.

I'd like to snap an image of this server before I re-build it and but True Image 9.1 doesn't support Slack 9. Only Slack 10. I've tried to install their agent anyways but get seg faults.

Kinda a vicious circle I'm in here where I want to back up the system but can't until I rebuild it.

Any suggestions?

You probably need to follow the upgarde instructions for 10.0.
That's when the most changes took place for kernel-2.6.x compatibility. But, you should be able to upgrade directly to 10.2. Look in the upgrade.txt for 10.0, 10.1 and 10.2 to see full details of major changes.

Now there is a stand up idea!!!

Checked it but it says the same thing so I think I am safe upgrading with those instructions...

Will try tonight...
