Slackware 10.1 on IBM Thinkpad R50

Hello

I'm not en expert Linux user, but I run Slackware on few "normal computers" but now I wont to have it on my laptop to.
But I'm afraid to mess something up. I'm worried about the hidden partition which the IBM laptops have, and the touch pad..... Have anybody any experiences with that?

I were looking around the net But i found something just for R51.

thanks Klemen

There are a few articles on www.linux-on-laptops.com regarding Linux on the R50. None are specific to Slackware but the info seems generic enough as to be taken from one distro to another.

Hmm I looked at that site before, and they have guide for IBM R51 which have almost identical specifications like mine. But they don't recommends installing LILO in MBR. On some other forums like http://www.slotech.net I read installing lilo in mbr is the most secure....
So, I'm interested if anyone have an IBM laptop (all have factory default function on boot) and install lilo in MBR.

If you are talking about the recovery image of the xp operating system that is hidden on the ibm thinkpads it is at the end of the disk and can be disabled in the BIOS - that way you can reclaim that wasted 6gb of space. As far as I know there shouldn't be a problem installing lilo to the MBR, but don't take my word for it, since my R40 has a more complicated dual boot setup and doesn't have lilo on the MBR, but on the beginning of my linux partition.

As for the touchpad try out this driver. I am using it and it works just fine.

Cheers!

In fact there is no problem with installing LILO on the MBR and with overwriting the backup copy of win xp on the R40. I just did it - finally wiping the last traces of windows from my (formerly dual boot) laptop. I even peeled off the sticker on the case that said "made for winXP." Everything works like a charm.
