Hello!
today i purchase wd external hdd ( connect via USB ).
connect it to my eeepc 900, and try install slack 13.1 on this external hdd. first partition bootable, linux, 30 gb, also swap partition 2 gb - all right. full install, simple lilo installing on mbr.
restart, yes, i see lilo promt
press on "Linux". booting...
oops! kernel panic - cannot mount root...
anyone try to install slack 13.1 32bit on external device? what is procedure?
libata_switchover HOWTO, 'libata_switchover' has been around since 13.0 but some new users are not aware. A new user should look at rworkman's 'libata_switchover HOWTO' to understand and be aware of the changes when using Slackware 13.0 & Slackware 13.1. Especially when performing upgrades or introduction to Slackware 13/13.1.
This is a common issue with externals: the system needs time to mount the drive. You may be able to reduce the delay; I've tried it with 5, but it doesn't *always* have time.
Before you mess around with lilo, though, try booting with the above line as an additional parameter.
nice advices...
when i try make a slack boot from external hdd - in slackware 12.2 time - i finally got problem, a lilo in 32bit version not support root="LABEL" or "UUID".
this thing is critical, when you boot from external devices.
anyone have a info about situation with this in slack 13.1 32bit ? it's working?
I tried in -current as recently as two months ago and i couldn't get it to work, so I've resorted to root=/dev/... , crossed fingers, and sysresccd as backups....
I sheepishly admit I didn't seek further advice here....
bad news. as i read, x64 version works, but my eeepc 900 with cekleron 900 not support 64bit instruction, as i know
bad situation. seek a patch for 32bit lilo, or turn to grub?
