shutting down problem with Slackware 12.1

I've just installed Slackware 12.1 on an old computer. It works correctly, but when I quit KDE to stop the PC, it refuses to shut down. The last message I receive is following :

Waiting for X server to shut down FreeFontPath : FPE "/usr/share/fonts/misc/" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing

Thanks for your help.

An older machine is probably using APM (rather than the newer ACPI), so you will need to enable the APM module at boot to be able to control the power supply.

You can test this by running the command "modprobe apm" and then trying to shutdown. If that fixes the problem, you can make the change permanent by changing the following section of /etc/rc.d/rc.modules by removing the "#" before /sbin:

Code:
#### APM support ###
# APM is a BIOS specification for saving power using several different
# techniques. This is mostly useful for battery powered laptops.
#/sbin/modprobe apm

Thank you for this idea. I tried it but it doesn't give anything more than the instruction "shutdown -h now". The problem is just that I have to be logged on "root" and not as a user. I didn't know it.
