rt73,bin required, not included in distribution

I needed rt73.bin to use an Ralink wireless network adaptor but had to download it - Slackware doesn't include it in its distribution.

Which version & kernel?

The 'RT73' Ralink for Slackware 13 2.6.29.5 kernel has the module;

Code:
~# cat /boot/config-huge-2.6.29.5 |grep -i rt73
CONFIG_RT73USB=m
You should read 'How to Ask Questions the Smart Way' to get a grip on how to present a query. No information provided to aid you other than a 'rt73' & Slackware nor what you have attempted to do.

Your kernel firmware should already contain the 'rt73.bin' file. What does 'lsmod' show? What about 'dmesg', 'ifconfig -a',iwconfig? If the kernel knows the device then what about how you configured the network?

rt73.bin needed, not included

Whoops! I forgot to mention that I use the latest Slackware which I update daily. I usually do. I use the smp kernel, the non-huge, because I like not-loading unnecessary modules.

When I added the Ralink adaptor (which uses rt73usb.ko) iwconfig would manipulate its netid (wlan2) and 'ifconfig -a' would report its existence, but:

ifconfig wlan2 up

would return:

rt73usb 4-1.4:1.0: firmware: requesting rt73.bin
phy7 -> rt2x00lib_request_firmware: Error - Failed to request Firmware.

I found rt73.bin nowhere in the latest Slackware distribution (I searched MANIFEST.bz2) I found it elsewhere (for an old kernel version), put it in /lib/firmware, and ifconfig could up wlan2, and, apparently, work.

This data would seem to indicate that rt73.bin is necessary.

rt73.bin found

Whoops! It is in the distribution. I searched MANIFEST.bz2 with zgrep, which doesn't work on bzipped files nor reports an error. I didn't know.

Apologies.
