no internet connection after installation

Have installed slackware 10.2 today but find that I have no internet connection at all. I dont think it has recognized my ethernet card on my laptop.

Dell Latitude C600, apart from opening up the laptop to find out the make of the ethernet card or NIC and I am stuck. Laptop is second hand.

results from following commands...
lspci -command not found
dmesg | grep eth -nothing
netconfig -command not found

Thanks in advance...

Did you remember to 'su root' before issuing these commands?

Run commands under "su" and configured the network. Will check it is running later today.

Thanks.

Hi,

Whenever you need to system config something you will be required to be root. You can open a root shell or open a console and su to root. The lspci and netconfig you used, would definitely require root.

Suggest to do as root;

Code:
#dmesg |grep eth #eth device info at boot
#dmesg |grep wlan #wlan device info at boot
#lsmod                      #see modules loaded
#lspci -vv                  #very verbose
#lspci -vv >lspci_txt #direct output to file to post
#netconfig                  #configure network
#/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 restart #restart network
#ifconfig -a                #net info
#route -n                   #get route info
Instead of the netconfig command you can configure using vi as root the /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf file then restart the network by;

Code:
#/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 restart
Whenever you are requesting help please provide un-edited output from commands!

How to ask questions is a good place to read.
