I have been given the task to install slackware 13.1 over windows. I have downloaded and copied slackware 13.1 on to a disk, and rebooted the computer, but i am not getting what all the tutorials have shown. I have been looking for tutorials that specifically instruct me as to how to install slackware 13.1 on to a windows xp. I am not trying to dual run I just simply want to run slackware and slackware only. Can anyone help? Im sure lost.
Boot from the CD/DVD and then log in as "root" at the prompt (it should tell you to do so). You can then run cfdisk and delete the Windows partitions and create Linux ones (you'll probably want one swap partition and a root partition. The latter will be for your Linux filesystem). Then run setup and follow the instructions.
If you need more detailed help, post exactly what you're having problems with.
I've also reported this to be moved to the Slackware - Installation forum, as you'll likely get better help there.
Questions:
Is it a CD or a DVD?
Did you write it as an ISO file, to make it bootable? A data file wouldn't be.
Is the drive set as bootable in the BIOS? Have you booted anything else from the drive?
Moved: This thread is more suitable in Slackware - Installation and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.
BTW, thanks for letting us know that you figured out your problem & marking this [SOLVED]". +5 (Rep(utation points).)
