I guess it isn't overclocked. How do I find out ?Its a second hand comp.
I have installed Suse,Redhat several times and they work without any glitch albeit a bit slow.
CD rom is fine. How do i check RAM ?just by command 'memtest' ?
Thanks
"memtest" is a booting application. You can find it on bootable SuSE CDROMs, or you create a boot floppy with the tool. The program is very slow, calculate about one day for it...
Another idea: have you tried another kernel on the Slackware CD?
Have you tried some parameters for the kernel? E.g. ACPI and APIC cause sometimes problems...
Hello hp_tux,
How can i try another kernel without reinstalling the whole thing again ?
I didn't try any parameters for the kernel.
I have tried installing few more kernels but same problem each time. What kernel should i install to make it work ?
Really want to try slack..have been trying since a week but no luck.
Hi tux,
I will try the cds on another PC.But it looks unlikely that both cds ( live cd and boot cd) would be corrupt. Both stop at the same point while booting.
i downloaded a fresh copy of live cd, verified its checksum and burnt to cd ; still i get the same problem.
Seems like slack doesn't like my hardware.I have installed and used suse, rhl, qnx, mandrake without any problem , don't know why slack refuses to boot.
thanks again
