So, you set aside 57 GB of space how ? You made a partition of that size formated in NTF$ ? Then you shouldn't be looking for 'free space' you should be looking for a partition of size 57 GB. Make sure you don't delete the wrong one.

I would recommend resizing the Windows partition and then letting the Linux installer do all the other partitioning.

If you have just one 4GB partition, is that where Windows is? (I would not think it would fit...)

i had installed fedora in that 57 gb space then i had deleted that partition from windows vista and now i want to install slackware in that same partition instead of fedora , when i start installing fedora it shows me the right thing but when i start it with slackware cfdisk it only shows me one partition and that is 4 gb.

If you deleted the partition, then something like cfdisk will not show it....

Can you boot from (any) Live CD linux and run "fdisk -l"

OR--what does Windows show for the partitions?

Cfdisk would show the total free space, plus the allocated space for each partition.

Plus no need to use a LiveCD, the Slackware install cd/dvd will work. If you want to do a 'fdisk -l' then issue from the cli once you boot.

Deleted partition is not a partition anymore but raw space. Substract used space from total space and you'll get raw space.
