Can't find CD-ROM

Hi,
I'm a newbie on Linux. I wanted to install the most basic slackware 10.2 into my vintage P-166 for my development server running Apache, PHP and MySQL(although someone told me I should use gentoo I think it's too difficult for me).
Problem is that after I boot up with the CD-ROM(Master on second channel), setting all the partitions and swap, I cannot select source media. My CD-ROM is a old Toshiba XM5602B and when I use auto detect, it said it cannot find any CD-ROM in my computer(?? but I just boot up from the CD-ROM).
I cannot connect my CD-ROM on the first channel because I'm running two HD (planning one for / and the other for swap and /home) and the cable is not long enough.
thx lot.

Does it give you an option to enter it manually? If so your cdrom will be at /dev/hdc

I tried all the options under the manual selection including /dev/hdc option.
I can see my CD-ROM busy but it still say that No IDE/SCSI drive. I tried the old_CD.i(not sure what it exactly right out of my head) kernal but still no luck.
Will that be a problem of my CD rather than CD-ROM? but if that is the case then I shouldn't be able to boot up my system.

Yeah, you would think if it is pooched it wouldn't boot at all! You may still want to run an md5 check on the burned disk anyway, or use the "check install media" feature if there is one.

Other than that, I don't know what to tell you...

Sorry.

Just did a md5 checksum and couldn't find any errors. What is "check install media"?
For my use should I really install gentoo instead?
