Why not create a "USB Stick" installer on the SD card instead of transferring files via an httpd?
Because sometimes access to a DHCP network is limited.

To install the packages from a USB stick (you must always boot from SD though) follow the instructions for the Raspberry Pi installation, as that part is covered in there and can be followed exactly.
I had toyed with trying to separate out the various installation options but it makes the documentation more confusing to follow as the screen shots are different and you need to include conditions "if you did this, do that". I find it easier to follow one complete recipe.
