Zip Slack frame buffer browser

I just got bored and downloaded zip slack. It is really great, so I decided to replace Mandrake on my work laptop with it.

Works great!!

Now while I am waiting for X to download over a slow modem has anybody used mozilla or some other x browser on a framebuffer?

only one i'm aware of is zen, which uses the new gumpf in gtk2 to run X apps in a framebuffer.

ok, I will look into that one, I thought I saw something about mozilla or netscape but can't remember where.

links is usable, but I can't hardly wait to get wmaker with mozilla going.

Took one night to download zipslack, got half of x last night, and hope to finish it tonight.

wget rules

If I was only at home I could have got everything in in 15 minutes.

Sometimes it actually makes sense to purchase the CD's. It supports the Linux community as well.

Anyway there is a framebuffer browser project called "Arachne" at http://browser.arachne.cz . I've never gotten the Linux version to work, but they have an MSDOS version that works amazingly well considering the limitations of MSDOS, just make sure you run a disk cache!

Of course there are those text mode browsers like "lynx" and "links", but I've never been able to get very far with these. I kind of tolarate them in emergencies only.

I have not been working on that lately but I think that links combined with seejpeg would not be too bad

I'll check out the fb browser when I get back to that project.

thanks
