(Yet another) nForce 2 onboard audio proble

When I start up my Slack (9.1) machine it says that it can't find the nvaudio.o module. I did a slocate and here is where the file is:

Where should the file be?

if you are on 2.4.22 then in the second directory. but the nvaudio driver is dross.... i'd strongly suggest dumping it and using Alsa with the snd_intel8x0 driver instead. works lovely.

thinking about it though, the "module" isn't nvaudio.o, that's technically just a file name, so i'm left thinking you're actually typing "modprobe nvaudio.o" which would be wrong... "modprobe nvaudio"

I would like to use ALSA but when I run it I get:

No supported PnP or PCI card found.
Would you like to probe legacy ISA sound card/chips?

When I choose yes I get:

No legacy drivers are avalible

i've had that same problem with ALSA and i have found that if you remove the ALSA packages and then reinstall them. That should take care of it.

I would also suggest getting the newest version of ALSA available as the one included on the slack 9.1 cd is the one that gave me trouble.
