Why I can't use USB audio device when onboard audio enabled in install
Hi,
I am frustrated about it. I have a machine (FC2)with on board audio, and
I connect 2 Labtec USB Headset to my computer. I tested 2 different
install process:
1) Disable onboard audio in BIOS, install Fedora 2, I can see 2 USB
labtec Headset using "esd -h" commnad and can use in the audio
applications; Then before reboot, I enable onboard audio in BIOS, after
boot up, I can see all 3 audio devices now (including internal one) and
work well.
2) Enable onboard audio in BIOS, install Fedora 2, I can only see
internal audio device using "esd -h" command and can't use USB audio
devices. Here is a dmesg output:

I can see all the audio devices in /proc/bus/usb/devices in both situations. Another thing, I check dmesg output : In case 1, system use "snd-usb-audio" module for USB audio device; but in case 2, system never use "snd-usb-audio" for USB audio devices?
What's the difference between enable and disable onboard audio whe install Fedora 2? I modified modprobe.conf, it doen't work.
rockyz; look at u r message carefully, it has references where problem maybe. don,t say for sure for don,t have same or similar setup. but reading
u r message red flags light me up. recheck & redo config.
Thanks for reply. I know there is something wrong in dmesg output. But I don't know how I can modify config to fix it. I had tried to modify /etc/modprobe.conf for serveral times, but it doesn't work. Can you give me some idea about it?
rockyz; honest am newbie too. answers given are from what read in howtos. in the same boat we newbies are in. just read everything and try to understand is how i operate. now to point (attempt to) u where ; http://
tldp.org/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDEX SINGLE LIST of HOWTOs and mini-HOWTOS ch,s 5 & 6. please scroll thru till u find pertentant info.
Sorry to bother you again. I got a lot of Howto document in the website. I just went through Sound-Howto, ALSA-sound-Howto, SoundPlayer-Howto. And they seems to only consider onboard or PCI sound card. But my problem is USB sound device, I can't find anything about it (in fact the onboard audio always works fine). Can you pointed out which Howto I should look into? Another question, do you encounter the same problem as me? Modified which configuration to fix it?
rockyz; sorry but am a newbie too and sad to say no do not have same setup. am only trying to point you to where i look towards answers too. am
always digging ,researching, reading everything that will help me then pass
it along .
