yet another 'k3b slow dvd burn' issue

yes yes i know, this topic has been talked about time and time again, but i assure you, ive spent a few days truely trying to figure this out via googling, irc channels etc...

so lets get to the matter at hand: i have a 16x burner being used with 16x media. when i go to burn with k3b, its bad enough that it only allows me to select 4x burn speed at best. however in reality it only burns the dvd at .6x! during that burn im given no info for the FIFO buffer or anything, just how long it will take (45mins+).

the first thing everyone seems to be concerned about is DMA. according to hdparm, its on. im not too sure on where to go next with diagnosing this issue though. i heard something about scsi emulation or something like that, but how do i go about enabling that?

and no, theres nothing wrong with the drive itself, nero under win2k handles this superbly, id really like to have k3b operate on the same level

my dvd burner is hdc, and my other optical drive (cd burner) is hdd. im not sure what that may do for anyone, but i threw it out there anyway.

thanks for any help that may be thrown in my direction ahead of time.

If you're using the 2.4 kernel, did you add 'hdc=ide-scsi' to lilo.conf?

You need to do that for scsi emulation. Put it in the global options.

ok, yes, i tried this already, and still got nowhere.. however, i did find something intresting out. i hopped into windows for giggles, cracked open nero and went to town. and believe it or not, same deal. it said it was burning at 4x, but in reality only burned at around .6x once again. which leads me to believe this might be a media issue. but i did buy quality media memorex dvd-r @ 16x. bad batch?? ill buy more later on today to see where i can get with that.

ill let you guys know whats up from there. till next time

you kiddin me?! my name is mac n cheese!
