Xterm Variants - Configuring widgets

Just upgrading to 13.0, and one thing I had in KDE 3.5 was a larger (normal) sized xterm, and a smaller sized one. The small sized ones are handy for CL scripts and don't chew up as much screen-estate.

I know I can change defaults in .xinitrc, but I don't know how to make a widget for the small xterm. Any pointers?

OK, I solved this. My terminology might be a little off.

I wanted two icons in the system tray...one to open a larger terminal, and another to open a smaller one. Here's how I did it:

exec xterm -sb -sl 500 -j -ls -fn 7x14 -fb 7x14bold &

gave me the xterm window I wanted. So I went to the KDE Menu Editor (right click on the K button on the system tray.

I stole the icon from the utilities > terminal entry, and changed the description, etc. And for the command, I entered the string above.

Pretty simple, but the last time I did this was probably 3 or 4 years ago, and other events have happened which are more memorable. In any event, now someone can duplicate what I did if that's what they are looking for.

You can also do "xterm -fa mono-12" to use the freetype library for fonts, which is a little less effort.

BTW, don't know if you're aware, but if you ctrl-right-mouse button on a ruuning xterm window, you can resize it to various font sizes.

Would have replied earlier, but I wasn't entirely sure what you were asking when you mentioned widgets.
