XML::Parser perl mod is req 4 intltool error

Hi,

I'm on a mission to compile gnome-2.6 from source. (obtained from Linux Format Magazine cover disc - no web access from my linux box)

I've got as far as ./configure in libbonobo-2.6.0 when it spits out this error:

configure: error: XML::Parser perl module is required for intltool

I googled for a sollution and found this here (can't post urls yet):

mail dot gnome dot org slash archives slash garnome-list slash 2004-March slash msg00210 dot htm

(snip)
Try running perl -MCPAN -e shell as root and in the cpan prompt type XML::Parser
(snip)

This resulted in me running the configuration for CPAN , and, as I've never touched anything remotely related to perl (gimp plugins) I panicked and pressed enter as much as possible to get rid of all those strange questions! hmmm. Eventually I got the prompt and typed XML::Parser and it refused to recognise either XML or Parser.

I've got no clue what's going on, please help.

---

I should have typed install XML::Parser at the CPAN prompt. But, without web access this does not work. I've not been able to find any package on the slackware dvd (again from LXF) which looks like it may contain this XML::Parser thing. I'm going back to google to see what I can find.

Thumbs up

Right, I've found the cpan dot org website, looked in the faq, found the .tar.gz for the XML::Parser (not the .pm file) and also the HOWTO to build and install the module. hopefully all will go well....

I was having the same problem, only mine stemmed from something different. I was trying to install Rox Filer which required the MIME shared database. As I downloaded that and tried to install the MIME libraries, that is when I got the XML::Parser error. Thanks to your reply to this problem, I went to CPAN and was also able to find the XML::Parser tar.gz which installed without error and then I was able to install the MIME database, which in turn, made my Rox Filer work fine. Thanks for following up on your post Boris.

There's actually a shared-mime-info package in current, I think it may be in g/.

In the CPAN FAQ, there is another solution. Simply typing:

perl -MCPAN -e 'install XML::Parser'

Seemed to work for me.

Regards,
Arno.
