The X server was started by root or another user? If not as root, try starting it with it.

log in as root and startx or if you're using some graphical login just enter as root and run the desired program.

it works when you write 'xhost +' in terminal, does the job for the current session only (I think). I wonder how I could edit it so that I wouldn't have to write it again every time... I'm having the same problem too.

arttu@localhost:~$ xhost +
access control disabled, clients can connect from any host
arttu@localhost:~$

It should be done as a normal user. Don't know why...

it is becoz normal user(i wud rather say current) has authority to run X...only he can allow others to acees X...thats why u need to do Xhost+ here to allow root to acces X.

but xhost+ is not good method to this in a comp on network...security issue...so so try xhost +localhost

btw, nice way to do this is to create a link in /root named .Xauthority to /home/<currentuser>/.Xauthority

$ln -s /home/<currentuser>/.Xauthority /root/.Xauthority

of course, u need root permission to do that.

enjoy!!
