I tried hard but I can't get used to the new xfce, I dislike gtk3 so much, I ditched xfce after more than 10 years using it exclusively.
I've been using it for many years, mainly because the PCs I generally are fairly old. But having installed 15.0 at home, I'm trying KDE again, and so far, so good. The work PCs I'll get round to upgrading in a few weeks and may well stick with XFCE.
I'm not fond of GTK3 either, as editing themes to the extent of changing anything other than the colours, is a right royal pain. And with the current fashion for flat themes, stuff like Raleigh has been dropped.
Though at least there's a third-party version, Raleigh Reloaded, which does a half-decent job of recreating the original.
For it's not just the desktop environment that I want to look consistent; other apps need to fit in. Firefox, for example, doesn't use GTK2 any more; you have to have 3.

I just did the upgrade to 15, coming from mostly 14.2+
I see XFCE 4.16 has its own screensaver package. I also see XScreenSaver still in the settings panel. What is the right way to disable the XFCE screensaver and use good old XScreenSaver?
Distribution: Slackware64-current with "True Multilib" and KDE4Town.

IIRC, go to "settings manager" > "session and startup" > "application autostart" and remove the check mark in the box next to "screensaver." I don't remember if it says "xfce4-screensaver" or just "screensaver." Make sure to put a check mark next to "xscreensaver." If Xscreensaver is not on the list, add it. Then log out and log back in.
Just for chuckles, I just looked it up and Xfce4-screensaver was first released in October of 2018.

I guess that is where I am confused. I looked at session and startup at first, but I don't see screensaver in there so I am not sure what starts xfce4-screensaver - which is running. There is basically nothing in xintric.xfce these days. So it does not run from there.

I'm not at the computer now but isn't it possible to just disable the Xfce screensaver in the Screensaver section of the Xfce Settings Manager?
After years/decades of frustration with increasing slowness of KDE4 & KDE5, I finally permanently switched to XFCE (using only it a week or two now, though I like several other resource-light window managers (WM) & desktop environments (DE.)) Will Robbie Workman probably still make beta-testing XFCE builds in future?
Can someone check if this bug happens on current xfce-4.16 or not?
Trying to decide if it's a xfce bug, vte bug, or possibly somewhat more severe bug in Xorg.
All I have here is 4.12 at the moment, with xfce4-terminal-0.6.3 and vte-0.28.2
What happened is that htop showed Xorg used 100% CPU on one laptop all the time, only in one user account.
There was nothing about it in any logs, so it took me a few hours to find the cause.
Reproduce steps:
Assign background image in xfce-terminal
Remove image file
Logout
Next login, start htop in xfce-terminal, Xorg will proceed to eat 100% CPU.
Distribution: Slackware64 15.0 (started with 13.37). Testing -current in a spare partition.

I couldn't reproduce, both Slackware 15.0 and 14.2 (not tested in -current).
edit- tested in a VBox -current vm, also didn't happen.

Thanks, it's probably nothing serious then. It all works fine with no background image specified.
Note that it only happened to me on one laptop with radeon mobility, couldn't repeat it on vmware player.
Other than that small issue, slackware64-15.0 with custom compiled xfce-4.12 works great on that laptop.
