XF86Config is missing....

Hi.
I just installed slack few days ago and it is giving me hell so far (used to use debian).
XF86Config is missing for example... there are XF86Config.eg and .98 files thou, that look like proper config files, however system seems to ignore them -- the reoslutions listed there are not supposrted by GNOME, enabling mouse wheel there didn't affect the system, even after I restrted X.
Moreso, i tried doing /path/filename run on them, but I was getting 'permission denied' even when i wasn't running X, and logged as root... so where/how can I edit my X settings?

note: i am runnign slack 10.0

/etc/X11/xorg

Slackware 10 does not have XFree86, Patrick has reverted back to X-Org windowing (from where XFree86 forked out of, some time ago), due to popular request. (Mostly due to licensing changes of the XFree org.)

As HuMJohn stated, Slackware 10 is using X.org, so the configuration program is xorgconfig and the config file /etc/X11/xorg.conf
