wine install


quick question

I downloaded wine and burnt it to cd ( I am using someone else broadband connection ).

Now I have it on cd which dir to I put it in to extract?

I have only been using slackware for a few hours and I know this is a pretty stupid question.

What exactly did you download? The sources (probably ending in tar.gz or tar.bz2), a slackpack (ending in .tgz) or anything else (.rpm, .deb)?

If you have the sources it's probably better to get a slackpack for now (from one of the slackware ftp-servers). If it's a slackpack you should be root and run installpkg with the name of that package as an argument.

Beyond that I'm not able to help you, because I run linux au sec, no windows to be found on my computer.

I downloaded a .tgz file. so you are saying if go into terminal and run install ( file name ) it should work


I dont need to mount my cdrom?

or are you saying I should just dump the file from cdrom to root?

If you d/i a .tgz
mount the cd you have it on
change to the directory where the .tgz file is
from the comand line su to root
installpkg is the comand to use (see man installpkg)
