Will Slack and SuSE get along?

Just wondering if installing Slackware 9.0 (was advised not to use 9.1) will corrupt SuSE in anyway? By that I mainly mean the boot configuration.

Regards,
unholy

Nope. Why do people keep asking that? *g* Any dual-boot, improperly done, will result in failure. Properly done, any Linux will happily coexist with any Linux.

And who advised you not to use 9.1? I mean, either's great - just curious.

(Love the sig.)

I was advised by someone in #slackware on irc.freenode.net not to use 9.1. They said it wasn't as reliable as 9.0. But thats good news so. I've been wanting to install it for a while, but I have SuSE just the way I need it and didnt want to disturb.

Thanks. (and cheers!).

I suppose it's YMMV, but I've had no problems with Slack 9.1.

Yeah - I kind of fscked up my box upgrading a hard drive and doing a mishmash of migrating and reinstalling Slack rather than one or the other so I'm getting glitches but, before that and other than that, 9.1's been a bit better than 9.0, overall. Can't really go wrong with either and, as Big Al says, ymmv.

Yep.... had no probs with 9.1 - in fact, with those Bistream Vera fonts in KDE 3.1.4 - its a work of art.... regards the dual boot - simply create a mount point in SUSE and mount Slack's Root partition to it - once this has been done, add an entry for Slack to "SUSE"'s lilo.conf

ie with a mount point of

/mnt/slackware

( for example )

image=/mnt/slackware/boot/vmlinuz
label="Slackware9.1"
root=/dev/hda6
append="devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi acpi=off quiet"
read-only

then save lilo.conf - then type

/sbin/lilo

to reinstall LILO and create a new map.. then reboot
