USB Mouse problems + SuSE not happy with Slack

My mouse doesn't work!! its a USB mouse so I chose usb mouse in the config screens, once I start up into X the mouse behaves as follows:-

move the mouse left - the pointer moves up
move the mouse right - the pointer moves down
click on any mouse button - the pointer moves right
(i can't get it to move left)

My mouse is a Microsoft (yea, I know, I know) Wireless explorer 2-buttons plus a wheel (which also doubles as a button)

I've had a play around editing the XF86Config file to no avail, changing the mouse protocol just results in other random behaviour or no movement at all For now I've changed the config back to "auto"

Any ideas how to solve it?

Ok, I've played around with xconfig quite a lot with still no joy. Can someone with a Microsoft USB mouse please post up their XF86Config file?

I think it might be because I'm using the wrong driver or something, at the moment I have

Option Driver = mouse (or something to that effect)

I know I can get this mouse working in Linux, its been working fine in SuSE for months!!

Oh, I have a USB keyboard too, which is working fine so I don't think its because I've chosen the wrong kernel (I went for the default one)

It have to be a wrong mouse device option, why you didn't save xf86config from suse? it was going to be a lot of help for you. or maybe try using knoppix, to detect or know where the device driver of your mouse point to, and use that instead of auto.

I now realise that I should have saved my config I've never had any mouse problems before though! Sure, I've had video mode problems but I'm used to sorting these out so I kinda assumed that these would be the only problems I would encounter. I thought mice were pretty standard things and that!

What is Knoppix like? Is it as clean and simple as slackware? (which looks absolutely brilliant, all the config files are in sensible places too! If only I could get my mouse working )

Knoppix is good stuff. If it wasn't for slack, I'd be all over Knoppix.

It has excellent autodetection and can be run from CD or installed to HD. It's often a good "rescue" disc when things mess up since you can run it from CD, mount drives, look at files..etc.

Set your PC to boot CD or DVD drive first, pop in a knoppix disc and off you go (although it'll be a bit slow since it's running from CD).

Talking

Yeeeeehaaaaa!!! I've got the mouse working in Slackware , I managed to find my old SuSE XF86Config file and copied from that, I'm gonna print out my current config now, just in case I need it in the future

Managed to get my HAM modem working in seconds too

I've got another problem though my DVD rom doesn't appear to exist, which I find very odd since that is what I used to install from! I've got a /dev/cdrom which points to my cdrecorder (will have to change it to SCSI emulation at some point but I think I can manage that). Any ideas what to doa about the DVD drive?
