wicd-1.7.2.4-i486-1_slack13.37 patch breaks hard wired ifplug like behavior

Hello all,

I'm experiencing breakage for wicd-1.7.2.4-i486-1_slack13.37 package.

When plugging in wired ethernet cable, I am not getting the *COMBINED* action of:

- wired autoconnects
- wireless auto disconnects.

Again, those two actions ARE supposed to be occuring at the same time.

Then when I unplug the cable the wifi should connect and the eth0 interface should drop.

In addition, when I try to configure the wired interfaces settings, I am unable to get my settings to store, pressing OK/enter has no affect. The gui is unresponsive. I can only close the window, without storing settings by hitting the enter key.

However all of the above DOES work correctly for me with wicd-1.7.2.1-i486-1_slack13.37.txz.

This behavior has worked for me for years. /ME loves wicd

Nothing has changed on this system except official updates for about a month, and certainly nothing that I think would cause the breakage.

I verified the hashes of my /etc and there all good.

I also did an additional try of the latest version, by removing wicd entirely, and it's cruft with:

rm /var/log/wicd/ -rf ; rm /var/lib/wicd/ -rf ; rm /usr/lib/wicd/ -rf ; rm /etc/wicd/ -rf ; rm /var/run/wicd/ -rf

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Fogie.

Not only your problem. The wicd packages in all slackware versions are currently broken. See:

I removed wicd and cleared out the un-removed stuff and then installed 1.7.0 and that worked for me (64-current).
The rest of my boxes I just blacklisted wicd and everything seems to be ok for now.
On my main box I switched over to networkmanager and that seems to be working out ok.

Thank you both for posting back.

Today I decided to remove all wicd, and it's configs and put in wicd-1.7.2.4-i486-2_slack13.37 and it appears that the input problem in the gui is fixed, and after a few trial runs, the ifplug like features are working as well.

So far so good.

The missing wired-autoconnect feature is still with me.
I have wicd-1.7.2.4-i486-2.

Have you killed the wicd-client and restart the application?
