why should i recompile these programs in new slack?

hi..

i noticed that some of programs that i compiled in slack8.1 dont work in 9.0
eg) cups

is it because the two slack use different set of library?

i'm so frustrated that i can't use much of /usr/local .. what's the point of having this partition ...

never mind, i had restore some files under /usr/lib/cups/

so far
programs compiled with gcc2.95 in slack8.1

mozilla/acroread/xemacs/cups/
works

galeon1.2.8
doesn't
(it needs gnome1.4 libraries)

hmm.. most of them work =(
i'll keep the list updated if this makes any sense..
is there such as binary compatability between two slack versions?

Generally binaries compiled with 2.95 won't work with those from 3.2, one thing you should have a loof into is the flags available in gcc-3.2, I'm compiling with march=athlon-tbird :-)
