Although, the next release possibly more than a year away, don't hang onto anything it will be any specific number, other than what Patrick deems fitting.

Though 14.92 would be a gratuitous nod to history.

That could be quite contentious. There are people who feel that Columbus arriving to America -- and the events that took place afterward -- should not be celebrated.

Plus, that is a very American-centric date, and Slackware is international.

Actually the discovery of North America was not geared towards America only. It was the discovery and confirmation of science and exploration that the world was round going back to ancient Greece.

People already knew the Earth was round a long time before that, but they weren't aware of the size of the Earth. Either way, with all the bad that some associate with Columbus and 1492, and its common association with only the discovery of America, I don't think it would make a good version number (but who cares what I think).

15 ? Easy: (1<<4)-1 ...or... the "f" version.

Never sell yourself short sir!

Anyways, one idea behind suggesting "14.92" would be newcomers "Discovering Slackware and/or Linux".

10.x -> 10.0, 10.1, 10.2
11.x -> 11.0
12.x -> 12.0, 12.1, 12.2
13.x -> 13.0, 13.1, 13.37
14.x -> 14.0, 14.1, 14.2

So, in addition to the other posts, it could just be that it's how it's been done before.
I was kind of hoping for a 14.1337.
