You went from 13.1 to 13.37, so I figured 14.2 to 14.3.14159 wasn't too large

I didn't want the version after 14.2 to be considered a very minor update from 14.2... unless you release it in like 6 months.

And version 16 would contain a release 16.180339 (1.6180339). Still searching for something for Version 15. We can't have special 13, 14, and 16 version numbers, skipping 15.

That would be divine!

But then Pat would have to rewrite all the start scripts to use the conch shell and transcendental conditional syntax:

Code:
iph [ (((x+y)/x)) = ((x/y)) ]; then
 ... infinite recursion here...
phi

Screw it all and bump it to Slackware-9999.

Just make sure the next version number isn't too modern.

I suggest Slackware 5.0 then. We have been waiting it during 15 years.

I'd suggest 10*pi/2 for 15.

14.3

For quite a while now LQ members have been referring to "-current" as "14.2". Sometimes the post will qualify the 14.2 label with RC2, Beta, or a date, but often not.

IMO it is imprecise, incorrect, and misleading to refer to a particular state of -current with the same name as a future stable release. Such a practice may lead encouragement to those impatient for the next stable release, but if the next release is labeled "14.2" then ...

A year from now when I search for a problem on this forum related to Slackware version 14.2 I will get many many more hits involving the state of -current at the time of the posting than I will the actual 14.2 release.

Many members searching for solutions in 14.2 will not pay close attention to the date of the thread and the date of the post and compare those dates to the date Slackware 14.2 stable was released.

Because "14.2" has become synonymous with "-current" in the 2014/2015/2016 development cycle the next release will be called 14.3. Version label 14.2 will be skipped.

Putting away my crystal ball now.

I think that's unavoidable, given that PV has already declared it as 14.2 from the ChangeLog. It is unfortunate that it could cause confusion for future LQ searches.
