Arrow Why fans are always working ?

Hi

i m using Slackware 12 ( 2.6.21.5-smp ) at my toshiba laptop. But when i m on slackware my laptop's fans are always working. Also i m using gkrellm and it does not show the temperature. i want them to work when it's needed. How can i do that ? possible to control fans and temperature ?

Also ( my friend suggested )
output of pwmconfig
Code:
/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: No sensors found! (modprobe sensor modules?)
Thanx in advance.

how old is your laptop? Do sensors work on windows or other linuxes?

It could be too old for the sensors / fan speed control to work. My old desktop for example is unable to have it's CPU speed or fans controlled.

Also if no sensors can be found it could mean that there are no sensors. My new desktop found all it's sensors no probs, my older laptop has a few sensors but fan speed isn't one of them. Try running sensors-detect as root to see if anything is found.

I recently found the same issue with the fan on my laptop. As it turned out, the acpi module that controls the fan wasn't being loaded during startup. As root, try modprobe fan and modprobe thermal.
