If Pat announces today that Slackware will never be updated again, then I'll simply continue to use Slackware for another year. 13.37 is still good, and I can still update it from third party sites like Alien Bob, Robby Workman, Ponce and SlackBuilds.org. Not to mention the SlackBuilds in /sources I'll still be able to get on the DVD and every mirror.
I'm just wondering whitch distro you wold use if slack died.
I don't see Slackware dying, even if Pat didn't appoint an official succesor a dedicated team could fork it and keep it's basic philosophy.
I can think of 2 scenarios and posible solutions to it's so called death.
1.- Pat gets tired or bored. What can we do?: Give him a sabbatical, help with development, help keep motivation up.
2.- Slackware doesn't provide enough income for Pat and family. What can we do?: Subscribe, donate, buy from Slackware store.
Slackware is still the oldest surviving distribution and I hope it keeps that way for a long time. Otherwise, if it really vanished I would probably run Arch, already voted on poll on ponce's URL. .

Slackware is developed by Patrick Volkerding. When you assume Slackware will die I understand P. V. will stop to develop it. In such a situation I think a group of a few Slackware enthusiasts will start to develop it trying to keep the conditions that are defined when Slackware came into being. Probably a few forks will arise so I’ll have to choose one of them that will fit my demands the best. If Slackware will die completely I’ll start to use Arch Linux. Now that’s the distribution that’s closest to my expectations in the second place just after Slackware. In the indeterminate future it could be some other Linux distribution – I don’t know these future distributions so I can’t pick the one I’ll choose.
