what commands do I use to start and stop my internet connection?

Is there a command I can use to start or stop my internet connect. I use shaw cable. It's DHCP.
My cable line often unplug to the adapter itself, and I always found it is not plugged to the adpater when I start my slackware. Usually, I have to plug the cable line back to the adaptor properly and reboot my box. Now, I found rebooting my computer is annoying and I seek a way that I can use to connect to internet without rebooting.

You should probably be fine by running: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 stop && /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 start

You could try as root :

/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 stop
/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 start

(which is the same as gbonvehi quickly said )
